The Thora Reardon Memorial
Day A brief history: Thora Reardon was an inspirational personality and her encouragement to so many hibiscus gardeners was instrumental in helping them grow hibiscus successfully. She became a bloom judge and was a prime mover in getting our fledgeling competition started. She was a successful propagator of hibiscus particularly by grafting and some of her standard hibiscus were a sight to behold. Her home garden was a botanic garden as Pat and Thora lovingly tended it. It is a fitting tribute to have what was previously our annual field day converted to have bloom competition as well. It also seemed appropriate when Pat won the Champion Bloom Trophy with Jack III. |
