The CHOGM Story

Display sample from the Hyatt Regency Resort at Coolum
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was be held on Queensland's Sunshine Coast from 2-5 March, 2002.  It was the largest meeting of international leaders ever held in Australia, representing about 25 per cent of the world's nations and nearly one-third of its population.  National leaders and senior delegates from up to 52 Commonwealth countries stayed and met at the Hyatt Regency Resort at Coolum.

Senior Ministers and other delegates resided and met at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort at Mudjimba Beach. More than 1500 delegates and up to 1000 accredited media, including half from overseas arrived for the event.

Located about one hour's drive north of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast is one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations with stunning beaches and hinterland scenery in a subtropical climate.

Hosted by the Australian Government, CHOGM 2002 is supported by the Queensland Government and Maroochy Shire Council. and presented an opportunity to showcase this beautiful region and State to the world and in doing so, further enhance trade and tourism opportunities nationally and internationally.  The aim of CHOGM 2002 was to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information across cultures and communities with the common goal of improving the futures of the people of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Our Society was pleased to be able to supply over 1000 blooms daily to ornament the fountains and pools.
