Nambour Garden Expo
on July 4-6, 2003

Once again, the team put on a marvellous display under the inspiration of President Gynith Whatmough and the artistic direction of Dell Humphries.  Daily renewal of the blooms and replenishment of the information brochures kept the thousands of visitors interested.  Brunnings products were prominent, especially the hibiscus wonder drug, Nitrophoska Perfekt.

The Team

Above are John and Dell Humphries, Gynith Whatmough, Des Kearton, Julie Lindsay and Mike Raabe while Patron, Colin Campbell does his gardening patter for radio station 4BC on the station's stand.

Hibiscus are everywhere but the the central feature is information on hibiscus and where to learn more about hibiscus whether from the web site or by attending a Branch meeting or even purchasing a booklet or two.

There is even a "history" book of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis prepared by Archie Rogers.

Below see examples of bloom families!

Of course, blooms dominate the view and keep everyone enthralled.

A mini-display of some of the more recent American hybrids was accompanied by a fun promotion of some of the best new Australian varieties.  The "new" varieties were accompanied by their parents together with little containers appropriately named "food", "drink", "potty" and the like!!!  Colours are stricktly winter dress, many being much more spectacular in the warmer months.
Ekka Anniverary, above, was bred from Miss Liberty x Harvest Moon.
Desleigh Anne, above right, is Montego Bay x Fourth of July.
Matthew Rodney, below left, is Jack III x Colin Campbell.
Newstead, below centre, is Topaz Glory x Oyster Pearl.
Berried Treasure, below right, is also Topaz Glory x Oyster Pearl.

To the right is Ganmor Gloriana, one of the many sports of Dorothy Brady - not all new hibiscus are bred directly from parents!!  It was part of a display of "The Brady Bunch" with other sports.
